Hello, cherubs.
So, as discussed in class, I want everyone to reply this post with their best paragraph so far from their essays. When it comes to revision time, we’ll have a selection of quotes and analysis to use.
In Chapter 7 temperatures begin to run high and tension builds between Tom, Daisy and Gatsby. During their time at the hotel Tom starts to argue with Gatsby as he begins to realise what is going on between and Daisy and Gatsby, ” I picked him for a bootlegger the first time I saw him, and I wasn’t far wrong.” Here we see Tom accusing Gatsby of running an illegal business, which is entirely true. Not only is this changing the groups views on Gatsby but it is also causing Daisy to see Gatsby in a different light. The quote also presents Tom finally snapping and trying to cause trouble with Gatsby as he grows jealous of his relationship with Daisy.
The scene at the plaza is the main point for the tension to build rapidly for Gatsby almost forces Daisy to declare her love to for him, and to admit to Tom she never loved him. This is shown when Daisy is at breaking point. “Oh you want to much!” she cried to Gatsby. “I love you now-isn’t that enough? I cant help what’s past” She began to sob hopelessly. “I did love him once-but I loved you too.” Daisy has already admitted her love for Gatsby but yet Tom is still persisting it is not the truth and Gatsby also does not seem satisfied even after she tells Tom she is leaving him.
